Toronto's architecturally distinct New City Hall was designed by the Finnish architect Viljo Revell and opened in 1965. The design features two curved office towers and the domed council chamber in the centre which was intended to represent the democratically elected 'eye' at the centre of the city bureaucracy. Nathan Phillips Square in front of City Hall hosts annual events in the summer and public skating in the winter.
