Assateague Island Lighthouse is located on Chincoteague, the island of wild ponies. The 142-foot tower was built in 1833 and its light can be seen for 19 nautical miles. It is one of a number of lighthouses operated by the United States Coast Guard and is open to visitors several times each year.
