Preparing & Submitting Your
Photographic Images

Introduction

Your photographic images will be used in several different sizes and formats on the BTST web site:  113x75 pixels (thumbnail), 720x480 pixels (full size).

Your photographic images will be listed in two places on the BTST web site:  amateur gallery and Ecards.

All images used on the web will be low-resolution (72 pixels per inch).  This low resolution reduces the file size for faster online transfer without diminishing the appearance of the image on the PC monitor.

General image requirements

The photographic images you select for use on the BTST web site should have the following characteristics:

  1. You must have the legal rights to distribute the images on the Internet.

  2. The images can be landscape (i.e., horizontal) or portrait (i.e., vertical), but landscapes layout best on a PC monitor.

  3. All images should have an aspect (height to width) ratio of approximately 1 to 1.5 (e.g., just like a standard 4"x6" post card).

  4. The images should be sharp and suitable for publication without further touchup.

  5. BTST recommends that pictures fall into one of the following categories:

    • Activities (ballooning, boating, festivals, golfing, water fun, etc.)

    • Animals (wild, domestic, exotic, etc.)

    • Places (nature, cities, landmarks, national parks, memorials, etc.)

    • Scenery (beaches, canyons, caves, deserts, farms, ranches, fountains, gardens, glaciers, mountains, rivers, lakes, rock formations, volcanoes, water falls, weather, etc.)

    • Seasons (spring, summer, fall, winter)

    • Structures (bridges, dams, churches, hotels, government buildings, highways, lighthouses, sporting arenas, etc.)

    • Modes of Transportation (trains, boats, etc.)

Preparing you images for submission to BTST

For each picture include the following information:

  1. An appropriate name indicating the subject of the picture (e.g., grand_canyon.jpg)

  2. A brief description.

  3. The location (e.g., city, state, province, country) where the picture was taken.

  4. Who took the picture (e.g., who owns the copyright)

The digital picture file should be a jpg format with a density of 72 pixels per inch with a size of 720x480 pixels.  If you don't know how to do this, just submit the photo as taken and BTST will size it correctly.

If you have developed photos (i.e., taken with a film camera) you can have them digitally scanned (at Kinko or other photocopy outlet), put onto a CD ROM and then you can submit them to BTST.

Email the pictures and information to photo@beentheresawthat.com.  BTST will send you a confirmation email when the pictures have been posted.
