The Columbia Ice fields, located roughly midway between Lake Louise and Jasper, are visible from the Icefields Parkway.  It is the largest of the chain of ice fields along the Great Divide separating Alberta and British Columbia.  This 325 square kilometer accumulation of ice feeds eight large glaciers.  For safety reasons visitors are warned NOT to walk out onto the glacier, although guided tours are available.
